James A. Goforth
James Goforth, a native of Asheville, North Carolina, moved to Erwin, Tennessee when his father took a job as a machinist in the Clinchfield locomotive shop during World War I. He developed a lifelong love affair with th Clinchfield and, after earining a B.S. degree from the University of Kentucky in 1939, joined the railroad’s engineering department in 1943.
Goforth left the Clinchfield in 1973 but returned in 1979 and retired two years later.
