Oliver Taylor

Born August 8, 1862, in Blountville, Tennessee, Oliver Taylor spent all of his life as a resident of Sullivan County, most of it in Bristol. Describing him as a "Thespian, author, farmer", an obituary printed in the Bristol Herald Courier in October 1923 goes on to say 'he had two vocations, billboard advertising and farming, and two avocations, literature and the theatre." It was said that he raised the finest peaches anywhere around but he spent most of his life as a professional theatre man working with Appalachian amateurs. He wrote several plays as well as directing and acting in many.
